Treasure found in the debris – benches made from Carrara marble - material for the two sculptures in the Form 3 series.
Each sculpture is an experiment in polarity — masculine and feminine. More importantly, it is an experiment in the space between two forms, which creates the charge. Crush two forms together or place them too far apart and the magic is lost. Put them just close enough and you can see how they dance, flirt, struggle, wrap around each other or pull away.
One of the two forms, the masculine one, was broken in half. I did my share of crying and grieving. It was time for a photoshoot. The feminine form was about to be photographed solo, standing graceful and alone on an oversized granite base. Background, light, camera, position, everything was set up and ready. The sun came out through a small window in the photo studio and a ray of light touched the granite base exactly where the broken piece was supposed to stand. The ray of light was also broken in half.
Please interpret this occasion as you wish. How did I interpret this? I guess I didn’t. With bottomless gratitude I picked up the broken pieces, glued them together and put the mended form back on the granite base.
