Treasure found in the debris – benches made from Carrara marble - material for the two sculptures in the Form 3 series.
Each sculpture is an experiment in polarity — masculine and feminine. More importantly, it is an experiment in the space between two forms, which creates the charge. Crush two forms together or place them too far apart and the magic is lost. Put them just close enough and you can see how they dance, flirt, struggle, wrap around each other or pull away.
Feminine forms came to me easily, they appeared effortlessly from the cloud of white marble dust, ready to be mounted on a base and shown in their own right.
Masculine forms, for all the sculptures, came through struggle, reflection, and breaks. Mirroring the difficulty of holding the polarity in life.
The feminine forms hold elongated negative space, soft curves and rounded transitions, while the masculine forms carry abrupt volume shifts and harder directional lines.
And here is a little magic that I am blessed to touch sometimes.
